The SCEAL project will enable the adoption of smart contracts in a wide range of application scenarios. To reach this goal, the project will develop an adaptable approach towards smart contract execution over a multiple-layer infrastructure capable of ensuring a proper trade-off between efficiency and security, depending on execution strategies established according to the contract context. On top of this efficient adaptive execution, the project will also look at ways to make smart contracts easier for people to use. This includes measures to reduce or exempt fees for users of decentralised apps (DApps) and to make sure contracts cannot be censored or exploited. SCEAL focuses on the Ethereum ecosystem and similar networks using the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), which are currently the most popular public blockchains.
